Brian Tyson

Brian is the Chairman of SEC Newgate Australia, having previously served as its founding Managing Partner since its establishment in 2013. He is head of APAC region and Global Deputy Chief Executive Officer of SEC Newgate S.p.A, the parent company of SEC Newgate Australia. He is also a co-founder of SEC Newgate Research.
In a consulting career spanning over two decades, Brian has come to be regarded as one of Australia’s leading communications practitioners with expertise in strategic crisis and issues management, financial transactions, government relations, media management and community campaigns.
Brian has led several high profile and complex crisis and public affairs campaigns and financial transactions in the infrastructure, transport, banking, energy, agriculture, arts, media, and sports sectors.
Brian is a Director of AFL Club the Sydney Swans, the Committee for Sydney, SEC Newgate S.p.A and the Clontarf Foundation, which supports educational opportunities for young Indigenous Australians.
Prior to consulting, Brian was a political adviser to the New South Wales Government. He started his career as a journalist with The Land newspaper.

Sue Vercoe

Sue is a Managing Partner of SEC Newgate and one of Australia’s most sought-after market and social researchers for strategic communications counsel.
She has more than 30 years’ experience advising corporates on high stakes reputation issues, public policy and regulatory affairs, financial transactions, stakeholder and community engagement.
She is passionate about helping organisations navigate complex issues that matter through building a deeper understanding of what people want, supporting them to work with stakeholders to develop collaborative solutions, and designing effective communications.
She started her career in communications consulting before moving into research, fascinated by its power in ensuring strategy and messaging is underpinned by objective fact rather than gut feel and assumption. Her strategic counsel is integral to SEC Newgate’s strategic communications offering to clients and identifying the most effective ways to engage and influence.
Sue leads an award-winning research team and has particular expertise in leading sensitive community and stakeholder research for organisations facing complex issues, as well as on key policy issues, stakeholder reputation research, message and narrative development. She leads the firm’s global research into community expectations of corporates, how they make judgements on environmental, social and governance actions, and how organisations can leverage environmental, social and governance actions to boost their reputation.
She’s also a highly sought after facilitator for stakeholder and community workshops, including co-design and deliberative processes.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Organisational Communication from Charles Sturt University and a Masters in International Communications from Macquarie University. She is a Qualified Professional Researcher (QPR), a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), has the IAP2 Certificate of Engagement and is a member of Chief Executive Women.

Angus Trigg

Angus brings a rare combination of senior corporate affairs leadership and hands‑on commercial experience, helping boards and executive teams navigate complex issues where reputation, regulation and business performance intersect. Angus has advised non‑executive directors and senior executives on high‑stakes public affairs, corporate communications and reputation challenges for over 25 years.
His value lies in connecting strategy with execution. Having held senior corporate affairs roles at GrainCorp and Insurance Australia Group, and worked in operational excellence, change management and small business environments, Angus approaches communications challenges with a deep understanding of how organisations actually operate. This allows him to design advice and campaigns that are practical, credible and aligned to commercial realities—not just messaging objectives.
Angus is known for his disciplined, trust‑based approach, grounded in clarity and authenticity. Erica Borgelt

Erica is a senior financial and corporate communications adviser with more than 20 years’ supporting boards and executive teams through complex transactions, regulatory scrutiny and high-stakes reputational issues. She is trusted by clients as a strategic partner who brings commercial judgement, clarity and disciplined execution.
With deep expertise across financial services and capital‑intensive sectors, Erica advises organisations across institutional and retail environments on corporate communications, investor relations, M&A and transaction communications, media strategy and issues management, helping leaders make confident decisions and communicate effectively with investors, regulators, employees, media and the broader market.
Erica has advised on some of the market’s most significant transactions, including Domain’s acquisition by CoStar, Saint‑Gobain’s acquisition of CSR, Resolution Life’s merger with MLC Life Insurance, Square’s acquisition of Afterpay, Whitehaven’s acquisition of BHP and Mitsubishi coal assets, and the merger of Heritage Bank and People’s Choice Credit Union. She is currently advising Steel Dynamics on its proposed bid for BlueScope’s US assets.

Clint McGilvray
Partner & Head of Crisis Communications

Clint is a public affairs, crisis communications and campaign specialist, with extensive experience working across both the public and private sector in Australia and the UK.
At SEC Newgate, Clint has provided strategic advice and led projects across infrastructure, property and construction, financial and professional services, health, technology and social change campaigns.
Prior to joining SEC Newgate, Clint was the Director of Communications for the Equality Campaign, which successfully led the national campaign for marriage equality in Australia. He was instrumental in driving one of the largest movements for social change in the nation’s recent history. Clint’s career has seen him work closely with both the Federal and NSW State Government and all political parties.
Clint worked as a Communications Director in the NSW Government, where he developed and executed the communications strategies for government reforms, including the $4.7 billion Police and Emergency Services Portfolio.
His career has involved liaising with media on breaking news and providing long-term strategic communications advice on major policy announcements including economic and social reforms and political campaigns and advocacy.
Clint has a Bachelor of Economics (Social Science) from the University of Sydney and a Master of International Relations from the University of New South Wales.

Sara Hourigan

Sara is a communications and public affairs consultant with a strong track record on projects involving sensitive issues, and complex public policy aspects that require highly robust communications and stakeholder engagement strategies.
The focus of Sara’s work has been helping government and corporate clients to understand their internal and external stakeholder environments and effectively engage with staff, media, industry, community and government to foster social – and actual – licence to operate.
Sara has also advised a number of Federal Government agencies on communications for landmark government policies with significant media, community and industry interest.
Sara’s experience includes working in London where she advised multinational companies such as Unilever, ManpowerGroup and Glencore on global, complex and high-profile briefs.
Sara has worked in strategic communications agencies in Canberra where her client list included Google, Apple, and Vodafone. Sara has also advised a number of Federal Government agencies.
Sara holds a Bachelor of Arts from the Australian National University.
